Ton & Bond set for collaboration

BandCymru_2016_AuditionFollowing their recent qualification to the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall, Tongwynlais Temperance Band hasannounced a collaborative CD Recording with its Resident Conductor & Composer in Residence, Christopher Bond.

Christopher, who is also Associate Composer to the world-famous Cory Band, will in a couple of months record a CD featuring all of his music, with contributions not only from the band, but also other brass chamber groups and soloists. KMJ Recordings will oversee the recording process, which will take place in Cardiff.

Christopher told us: “For me, the opportunity to spend time with the band on my music, as well as a couple of other smaller groups and soloists, is invaluable. I’m really looking forward to producing something which represents me, my music and my work-to-date, much of which encompasses a huge variety of styles and collection of ideas.”

A spokesperson for Tongwynlais added: “It’s great for the band to be involved in a project like this, and will get the players in the recording studio environment for the first time in quite some time. It’s hugely exciting to work alongside Christopher, and the band are looking forward to being able to perform and record his music with him.”

The recording will feature a number of works for full band, including his fifteen-minute tenor horn concerto Bestowal of a Century that was written for and commissioned by Lowenna Taylor and premiered in December 2014 by her and the Cornwall Youth Brass Band.

She told us: “I’m so lucky to be able to continue working with my good friend Christopher on this fantastic concerto and to be able to record it with a terrific band like Tongwynlais”

As well as his tenor horn concerto, the recording will feature his Fanfare of a Nation, premiered to HM Queen Elizabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee Tour and A New Dawn, title track of Owen Farr’s solo CD. Successful Welsh-based trombone quartet Bone Appétit will give the premiere recording of his Spiral Dreams, performed for the first time last month at St John’s Smith Square in London, as well as a Euphonium Quartet recording the award-winning quartet work, Islands in the Sky.
