Ton Qualify for the Royal Albert Hall

Last Sunday for the first time in the band’s 122 year history, we qualified for the National Championships of Great Britain Championship Section to be held in the Royal Albert Hall on the 9th October.

Drawn number Four, the band followed on the stage their rivals from the previous year Point of Ayr Band who had delivered a solid display. The band knew that we had to produce a quality performance to stand any chance of getting to the RAH in October.

The stage was set; the percussionist’s were ready so the band took its place on the stand to a full Brangwyn Hall. The ever charismatic Philip Harper walking on stage scoreless to conduct an intelligent and musical rendition of George Lloyds English Heritage. Throughout the piece the band responded to Phil pulling the music around, presenting a fine picture which encapsulated the audience from start to finish.

Special mention must go to our Principal Player, Carl Saunders (Cornet), David James (Flugel), Alyn James (Horn, Nigel Thomas (Baritone), Martyn Patterson (Euph) and Chris Eveson( Eb Bass). All performed brilliantly with Poise and Control, this was mentioned in the remarks by Malcolm Brownbill.

On the announcement of the results the Band could not hide their joy; this is the culmination of 3 years hard work, with the bitter pill of relegation in 2008, to winning the First Section National Title last September and gaining Promotion back to the Championship Section. We hope that this will now spur the band on to far bigger and great adventures ahead.
