Summer Concert Schedule

Tongwynlais Band have been busy preparing for a series of concerts over the summer under the direction of our Professional Conductor Philip Harper, who has put together varied and entertaining programmes for our audiences to enjoy.

Our first concert of the summer was on 25th June at the Albert Hall, Llandrindod Wells. The band enjoyed a successful evening of music, hosted by the Llandrindod Wells Rotary Club. The band opened their programme with the Lionel Richie classic “All Night Long”, we chose to feature four of our soloists on the night, and were very happy to include one of Paul McGhee’s (our Composer in residence) innovative pieces “Clapp!!!!” We would like to thank our hosts for such a warm welcome and hospitality.

The next date on our calendar is a concert as part of the Gabalfa Festival. This takes place at 7.30pm on 7th July at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Gabalfa Avenue, Cardiff. Tickets will be available on the door and are free.

Our last concert before our summer break will be at the Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival on Saturday 16th July at The Museum of Iron, Coalbrookdale. The Festival is set in one of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust’s ten award-winning museums in the area. It has been running since 2005 and its reputation is growing enormously year on year.
This year the festival site (Ironbridge) celebrates 25 years since becoming a world heritage site, and thus the festival has commissioned Matthew Hall to compose a piece of which we will give the first performance.
The band will be playing at 4pm and again at 7.30pm, when we will headline the Last Night of the Proms Concert, proceeds of which will go to the Severn Hospice.
