Sad Departures

Last month saw three members of the band move on to pastures new.

Band master and Bass player Nick Wills has taken up the position of Bb Bass player with the No.1 ranked band in the world, The Cory Band. Nick has been the driving force behind the bands progression over the last few years and will be sadly missed. Nick had been famous for saying (amongst other things that cant be repeated!), “Stick with me and we’ll be in the Open and National Finals in 5 years”. Two years later the band was indeed living the dream for the first time in the history of Tongwynlais Band. Nick, we salute you sir and will continue on our journey in your absence and make you proud. We wish you all the very best in your new band.

Principal Trombone player Robin Hackett with more than 7 years service to the band has also stepped down from playing. Robin was unable to play in a number of our upcoming contest engagements so has decided its the right time to leave. Robin has been a loyal and committed member and capped his time in the band with our debut appearances at the British Open and National Finals. Robin is a true bandsman and will be sadly missed from the Band and committee and we would like to express our sincere thanks to him for his time at Tongwynlais.

Finally Amy Phillips who has been with the band for a number of years on the back row has taken a Solo cornet position with the progressing City of Cardiff Band to further her playing career. Amy has played with the band at the British Open so will leave with fond contesting memories.

We would like to thank all three members for their commitment and dedication during the band resurgence back to the Championship section and wish them the best of luck with all future ventures.
