Roberts to lead Ton to Championship final

The Tongwynlais Temperance Band have announced that respected conductor, adjudicator and former Black Dyke front man Dave Roberts will be leading the band at the October National Championships at The Royal Albert Hall.

The band qualified to represent Wales at a keenly fought found regional contest in March. Its success marks its fifth successive visit to Kensington. The appointment follows the band’s sixth placed finish at the recent Grand Shield competition.

Band Chairman Iestyn Davies said, “As a hard working local band the chance to represent Wales once again, is a tremendous opportunity and privilege. It’s not something we take for granted but is based on hard work and commitment throughout the year.”

Dave Roberts has proven himself in both the UK and Scandinavia and as a highly experienced conductor and adjudicator has led Rothwell Temperance Band ably towards its current British Open status. Iestyn added, “As a band, we have a lot in common, not just the name, and I know that Dave will receive a warm Welsh welcome to the band room.

The band’s resident conductor Christopher Bond will continue to work with Dave Roberts in the lead up to the National Finals and direct the band at its forthcoming appearance at the Pershore Festival of Brass and subsequent concerts and recordings.

Iestyn concluded, “We have a strong leadership team in place and look forward to continuing to build the band both on and off the stage.”
