It’s Official!

Ben PeplerWith less than a week to go to the National Finals the Tongwynlais Band can confirm that the talented young tuba player Ben Pepler has formally joined the band.

Ben who learned to play in Wantage Silver band in Oxfordshire moved from tenor horn to tuba in 2011. Prior to performing on the weekend at the West Wales Brass Band contest he previously played for the Woodfalls band and in number of performances as a borrowed player and on the British Open Registry. Ben will now carry his Welsh Registry card with pride as he takes to the Royal Albert Hall stage next Saturday.

Band Chairman Iestyn Davies said, “Ben has been a real boost since joining us and has been a hardworking member of the bass section whilst waiting to be signed. He performed with real distinction at the Grand Shield and we’re really pleased to have him firmly on the Welsh Registry.”

Ben was keen to acknowledge the opportunities available to him as Ton’s latest signing, “I’m proud and really pleased to be an ‘official’ member of Tongwynlais Temperance Band. We have a great mix of players and characters and I’m looking forward to playing my part in an ambitious but friendly band. It was also great to mark my first official performance with a win!”

Ben is a second year at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is currently studying with Dan Trodden from BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
